Our Story

Built by a founder, for founders.

I got tired of review sites that ranked tools by commission size, not quality. So I built the site I wished existed.

I built TheFounderTools because I kept running into the same frustrating problem: almost every "best tool" list I found online was ranking software by affiliate commission size, not by how good it actually was for the use case I had in front of me.

I set out to build something different: a review site that earns trust first, and commissions second. Every tool on this site has been purchased with my own money, used for a minimum of 90 days across real business workflows, and scored against a transparent 6-factor rubric before I write a single word.

I do participate in affiliate programmes — that's disclosed fully below. But I have turned down direct sponsorships, and I have ranked tools lower on best-of lists when they paid higher commissions but delivered a worse product.

I believe founders deserve honest information. That's the only reason this site exists.

Our Methodology

How we review and score every tool

No tool appears on this site without going through our full review process. Here's exactly how it works.

Purchase and set up

We buy the tool ourselves — or use an existing active subscription. No free review accounts, no sponsored access. This ensures we see the real onboarding experience and real pricing.

90-day minimum testing period

We use the tool across real workflows for at least 90 days. For tools like hosting, this means monitoring uptime, support response times and performance metrics over months, not hours.

Score against our 6-factor rubric

Every tool is scored independently across 6 weighted criteria (see right). The final score drives the ranking — we never adjust scores based on affiliate rates or vendor relationships.

Write the review and identify who it's for

Every review includes a clear verdict, a "best for / not for" section, and an honest list of cons. We don't hide weaknesses. If a tool has a bad UI, slow support or pricing traps, we say so.

Quarterly re-review cycle

Every live review is scheduled for a full re-test every quarter. If pricing, features or quality change significantly, we update the review — or pull it. We don't keep stale reviews live for SEO benefit.
